How reminders work
TermUp sends reminders based on the dates saved on each document, the company reminder schedule in Settings, the document owners or assigned teams, and the reminder channels enabled on that document.
Email reminders are the default reminder channel. SMS reminders add text-message delivery when your plan includes SMS and each recipient has completed phone verification. Slack reminders post renewal and cancellation reminders to the connected Slack channel when your plan includes Slack.
Set company reminder timing
- Go to Settings.
- Choose the default reminder days for renewal dates and cancellation deadlines.
- If needed, customize reminder timing by renewal frequency, such as monthly, quarterly, or annual.
- Confirm the company timezone so reminders are evaluated using the right local day.
Choose who receives reminders
On each document, select the Document Owners who should receive reminder notifications. If your plan includes teams, assigned team members can also receive reminders for documents attached to their team access.
Turn on document reminder channels
- Open the document form while creating, finalizing, or editing a document.
- Use the Email reminder channel card to turn email reminders on or off for that document.
- Use the SMS reminder channel card to turn SMS reminders on or off for that document.
- Use the Slack reminder channel card to turn Slack reminders on or off for that document.
- Save the document so the channel settings are applied.
Connect Slack in Settings
An owner or admin can connect Slack from Settings when the workspace has Slack reminder access. Slack asks which channel TermUp should post reminders to, and TermUp stores that selected channel for company reminders.
If you want reminders in a different Slack channel later, disconnect Slack in Settings and reconnect it with the new channel selected.
Enable SMS in Profile
Each SMS recipient must have a phone number saved in Profile, verify that number with a one-time code, and enable SMS notifications. Verifying a phone number does not automatically opt someone into SMS reminders; they still need to enable SMS notifications.
SMS is available on Free Trial and Pro plans. Standard is email only.
Opting out and restarting SMS
A recipient can turn SMS off from Profile, or reply STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT to a TermUp text. Replying STOP creates a carrier-level opt-out, so TermUp cannot send SMS to that number again until the recipient texts START to the TermUp phone number.
After texting START, the recipient can return to Profile and enable SMS notifications again.
If reminders are not arriving
- Confirm the document has a renewal date or cancellation deadline.
- Confirm the reminder day has actually arrived in the company timezone.
- Confirm the recipient is a document owner or member of an assigned team.
- For email, check spam and allowlist `notifications@mail.termup.io`.
- For SMS, confirm the user has verified their phone number, enabled SMS notifications, and has not opted out by texting STOP.
- For Slack, confirm Slack is connected in Settings, the selected channel still exists, and Slack reminders are enabled on the document.
